Blog #7

Assigment 7...Please do your blog on art and society ...what are your thoughts on the role of art in society? Give modern day examples to illustrate your points.

I think it depends on the type of art (if music is considered art then it has an outstanding role is society). It also depends on the society. Art can potentially play an important part, but it can also be put on the back burner. In the United States, music is probably the most popular art form, and it has a drastic effect on society. Music is absolutely everywhere! There are countless genres and venues as well as artists and radio stations. Not only is music popular for itself, but the people who create that music get publicized and that plays a huge part with the unwanted paparazzi and media that dominates pop culture.

However, it seems to me that in Europe, paintings and architecture are much more appreciated. I have never actually been to Europe, but I know that they have many well known museums with priceless pieces of art. Their society is much more accepting and successful in their art. Plus, most of the famous painters through history have come from somewhere in Europe!

  1. I agree... After being in Europe last year, they do have a lot more of the art world there. Most of their buildings though are works of art hundreds of years old. The museums hold some of the best art in the world, maybe they just don't build anything new anymore!

  2. totally! Music is HUGGGEEE!
You don't even have to own an ipod to be influenced. (I don't own one...i listen to the radio at home.. A LOT! My dad always tells us to turn it off when we're studying)
Music is what my blog #7 entry is about too.
& not just music but music videos! Double the senses! & movies...humongous! Sadly, but American teenagers probably know much more about current day celebrities than World or even American history. As horrible as it is, it makes sense...we are into the things of today...we live in the present, why linger on the past?
But it's always important to appriciate & get to know the significances & progresses of yesteryears.
I've never been to Europe as well, or any other country other than usa, but i def agree.
I do think that ppl over there probably have a better appriciation for paintings & architecture. That IS what Europe is known for.
Even this art1b art class...it's the study of WEstern European art..not American.
    great post Kaitlin :)

  3. I agree with yours as well as Melissa's comments about architecture & paintings be much more appreciated in Europe. I have been traveled to a few places in Europe and their life style and culture is very different from the U.S. Just walking down the streets there is like being in a museum because there is so much history. Most of the structures there are works of art themselves because they were designed with more lavish details than architecture here. In the U.S. we tend to built for the masses, so the beauty in the architecture is lost because an entire block may look exactly the same.
